http://www.wmata.co…">Metro SafeTrack Plan
Metro's first SafeTrack work on the Orange and Silver lines began on Sunday, June 4 and will last until June 16.
During this time trains between East Falls Church and Ballston stations will share a single track.
Weekday train service during this time will be:
- Orange Line trains between Vienna and New Carrollton will operate every 18 minutes
- Additional Orange Line trains will operate between Ballston and New Carrollton only every six minutes during morning and afternoon rush and every 10 minutes during midday and evening
- Silver Line trains will operate every 18 minutes.
- At 10 p.m., all trains will operate every 20 minutes.
Orange and Silver line trains may be very crowded, especially during rush hour due to increased service reductions. Significantly longer wait times are also expected at Orange and Silver line stations.
Impact on Commuters
Residents, visitors and others who travel on the major corridors within Fairfax County including Interstate 66, Interstate 495, Dulles Toll Road, and Interstate 95, will be significantly affected by Metro's track work due to the additional traffic expected.
To reduce the potential for gridlock on the roads and highways, Fairfax County is urging commuters to use other methods of transportation, including biking, carpooling, Virginia Railway Express, Metrobus and Fairfax Connector buses.
