The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB), our local agency linking people to behavioral health and developmental disability services, needs your input to help design the future of developmental disability services. The CSB serves more than 1,300 people with developmental disabilities and is looking for ways to sustain these services as demand for them increases.
For decades, Fairfax County residents have generously supported our neighbors who have developmental disabilities to achieve inclusion in our schools, businesses, and community. Many disabilities are diagnosed in early childhood and may require lifelong services and supports. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated one in six American children have one or more developmental disabilities. As a member of the CSB’s Administrative Board, I invite you to join me at an upcoming meeting on July 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m, at the Pinn Community Center located at 10225 Zion Drive in Fairfax. Together we will learn more about the fiscal challenges the County is facing in serving the growing population of people with disabilities, and we will participate in a hands-on exercise to help us brainstorm workable solutions.
I hope you can come on July 25th and share your ideas. If you are unable to attend in person, please submit your ideas online: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/csb/innovation-challenge.htm.
